Slow Travel

The cabin and the surrounding property are set up to be a destination vacation spot. We are not near any big sights but you will have your unique experiences, which we believe are far and away better than rushing around seeing and doing as much as you possibly can. There is much to see and do on the property- open fields to explore as well as the little woods trails. Explore the wildflowers in the area. Savor a wonderful meal in the outdoors. Get a front row seat as you watch the beaver swim about doing their thing. If you do get that itch to "go to town", well, the town of Houlton has some wonderful architechture, an active and enthusiastically supported historical museum, 2 wonderful small restaurants, a natural food store and bakery, a movie theatre and usually some kind of musical offering somewhere.

Power

If you are newly interested in alternative power sources or you have already developed a great appreciation for it, you would like our cabin in the woods. You would also be intrigued to check out the house we are living in now, which is on the same property. It's a very traditional looking home but with some creative twists - composting toilet, highspeed internet phone, hot water on demand system, photovoltaics, vegetable gardening, composting. We'd love to share what we know and learn new things from others when it comes to efficiency of power. We are combining the best of the old and new technologies. Very few of us can live a very stripped down life, so why not consciously choose a lifestyle that allows you to be in the world but not of it!
